It's time. It's time we break the stranglehold the two party system has had on our politics for over 100 years. It's time we elected people who refuse to take corporate money. It's time we put people in office who actually understand the importance of science and ecology. It's time to send a Green to the United States Senate.
Make no mistake, I am running to win. The voters I'm trying to reach are the 70%. Most elections, only about 30% of the eligible voters actually turn up at the polls. People are so disillusioned with the two ordinary parties that they just don't vote. This is not surprising, 70% of Americans wanted a public option in the health care bill. They were denied. Also, about 70% oppose the Trans Pacific Partnership. Congress is in the process of betraying them, right now. Most Americans understand climate change is real, and don't want drilling in the Arctic. But, the majority of Americans also feel that they don't have a voice in government. By giving them a real choice, a Green Party candidate who refuses to take corporate donations, we will turn out enough votes to vote Rob Portman out of office and send the first Green to the U.S. Senate! Together, we will make history!
The Green Party has its official Party status, thanks to an incredible effort to put our 2014 gubernatorial candidates on the ballot as write-ins. This succeeded, and Anita Rios and Bob Fitrakis went on to win 3% of the vote, giving the Party more than enough support to maintain its status for another 2 years. More than 100,000 people voted Green in Ohio in 2014!
In March of 2016, thousands of Ohioans from all over the State voted for me in the primary election. That means this year, people will go to the polls in November and see a Green line for Senate with my name. We need to seize this opportunity. We also need to get more than 5% of the statewide vote for our Presidential Candidate, Jill Stein, in order to keep our Party status. People are more than ready for a change from the ordinary Parties. They are demanding it! Help us make that change. Vote to put a Green in the Senate. It's time.
VOTE GREEN IN 2016!

Joe's Speaks Out Against Racist Attacks
There are increasing reports of acts of violence and intimidation against people of color, LBGTQ people, Muslims and others in the wake of the Trump election. We must all condemn these attacks, immediately. However, the Republican Party has a special responsibility to quell the racist elements within their Party that led to this situation. It is our Diversity that makes us a great country, and those that seek to oppress the diverse elements in our Society are committing a crime against our Nation. We don't have time for shock or denial about this. History clearly shows that if these elements are left unchallenged, they can plunge us into cycles of violence and destruction. We as a Nation ARE better than this. But those who hold a narrow, hateful view of the world need to be challenged by the rest of us. They take silence as assent. We Greens do NOT assent to the oppression of anyone based on race, religion, class, or any other division.
Joe's statement on the 2016 election.
This has been a hard election for all of us. I know in my household the personal, financial and health costs of mounting a statewide election for a year and a half on a tiny budget have been severe, and I thank my family for helping me make this effort. Perhaps the deepest loss in this election is the loss of civility, the loss of friends and family who disagree politically. Our country is more divided than it has been since I was a child in the 1960's, at a time when we desperately need to come together to tackle society threatening problems like global warming and income inequality. One of the main causes of this division is our corporate dominated media. By carefully censoring what information we see, it gives us a distorted picture of ourselves and our neighbors. According to the Secretary of State, I received 1.6% of the vote for a total of 85,000 votes. This doesn't sound like much until you realize that 9 out of 10 Ohioans went into the polls not even knowing that there was a Green Party candidate for US Senate. I was locked out of the three hour-long televised debates and the public television stations refused to play even my two minute candidate statement. The television, radio, and newspapers assiduously ignored the Green Party for a year and a half. That makes the 1.6% I received nothing short of miraculous, and I thank my volunteers from all over the state who were out knocking on doors, hanging banners and passing out fliers for that. I was honored to be included in candidates' nights all over the state, and pleased to be included in some voters' guides put out by groups like the League of Women Voters. To the extent that true Democracy exists in Ohio, we were present and we did well. To the extent that money and the corporate media control who governs the country, we were excluded. In the last days before the election, I received literally thousands of facebook messages, phone calls, and tweets from people who had just found out about my candidacy and were overjoyed that they could vote for someone outside of the two party system. It is an indictment of our system that most Ohioans never knew they had that opportunity.
So, we find ourselves the day after the election a deeply divided country with the bonds between friends, family, and neighbor torn or strained, and we are faced with a decision. Do we deepen those divisions or do we work to strengthen our connections with each other? The threats to our Nation are still there. Threats like global warming will not go away simply because we elected a President who denies them. In the coming years, as crops fail, cities sink, and the climate runs away we will need each other. We can't afford to put off ending the fossil fuel economy simply because Jill Stein lost. We can not give up. Things look desperate right now, but we can't let that drive us to desperation.
The Green Party made some gains in this election. Jill Stein got almost three times the votes that she received in 2012. The Ohio Green Party has almost doubled in size, and we now have Greens in every county in the State. There are new County Committees forming where we have never had an organization before. So, there is hope for the future. We need to take that hope and turn it into a Green reality. Thank you to all who have helped us get this far. Let's keep going. It's time.
Joe on TV!
The public television station in Toledo, WGTE, offered free, two minute video statements to any candidates. Joe's two minute spot aired only once, but the response has been overwhelmingly positive. His spot has the most views of any candidate listed, and has received many compliments on facebook and other social media. See it for yourself!

Joe's Statement on 9/11
Today is the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks that destroyed the World Trade Center and much of the surrounding area in New York City. Like most of us who were alive that day, I will never forget the drama and horror of watching those towers burn, then collapse.
But, looking at that event as a Green Party member running for U.S. Senate in Ohio, I also see it as a demonstration of the failures of violence.
Some say that Osama Bin Laden accomplished everything he wanted in 9/11. They say he hated our freedoms, and we certainly are less free than we were 15 years ago. The 2012 Restricted Buildings and Grounds Act, which Obama signed into law, is just one of a thousand changes to laws and policies which have sharply curtailed our freedom of speech and assembly since 9/11. According to that law, protesters who come anywhere near the events or politicians they are actually protesting can be sent to prison for 10 years. Economically, we are certainly less free. About ¾ of Americans are either poorer or no better off than they were in 2008. So, fewer of us have the resources necessary to do things like start a new business or change careers. Physically, millions of us are locked into the absolute slavery of heroin addiction. The poppy fields which we “liberated” in Afghanistan are literally enslaving and killing our people.
But, as a Green, what 9/11 does for me is demonstrate the failures of violence and the necessity of non-violence. Osama failed in his main goal, which was to force the US to withdraw its bases from Saudi Arabia. In fact, US bases and troops now saturate the middle east. Also, the children of Osama's action, like the group ISIS, have mainly killed and victimized Muslims, not the West.
That's the problem with violence. It ALWAYS has unintended negative consequences. I believe that there is always a non-violent solution to every conflict, but sometimes we are not wise enough to see it. I confess that I did not protest the US invasion of Afghanistan. Even though I was a Green then and committed to non-violence, overthrowing the Taliban with our military seemed like the only option, an act of self-defense. The unintended consequence of that was that George W. Bush, seeing no opposition to the US invading one country, felt free to go ahead and invade another.
I, and millions of others, DID protest the invasion of Iraq, but by then the “War on Terror” was in full swing. The Press, now tightly controlled as a war time propaganda source, refused to cover our protests. The Press also refused to investigate the truth of the Bush administration's justifications for invading Iraq, enthusiastically repeating lies about weapons of mass destruction. Freedom of the press was another victim of 9/11.
Now, the public simply no longer believes in the mainstream media, after having been lied to so blatantly and so frequently. To this day, the Press largely ignores voices of peace and reason, like the Green Party presidential candidate, Jill Stein. At the same time, it acts as a megaphone for voices of fear and violence, like Donald Trump, whose every threat makes headlines.
But the truth is beginning to break out, anyway. Peace is infinitely better than War. Too many veterans have returned from Afghanistan and Iraq having seen for themselves the awful cost of trying to use violence in our conflicts with each other. They've seen for themselves the corruption that invasion and occupation inevitably cause. They've seen for themselves that their sacrifices and the sacrifices of their brothers and sisters in arms are being used for the profits of the oil companies and private contracting firms, and not to protect our freedoms. Our veterans are not falling for the propaganda anymore. Truth, as painful as it can be sometimes, is infinitely better than lies.
The truth is that, in this election, I see signs of hope for finally breaking this cycle of violence that 9/11 was a part of. The Green Party, the only party with Non-violence as a fundamental principle, is making great gains this year. Our presidential candidate, Jill Stein, who is calling for a 50% reduction in military spending, is poised to do better than any Green in history. The American people, as a group, have rejected the ideas of invading Syria. Every day it becomes clearer that killing people, through drone strikes or with bombs or guns, is not the way to establish peace in the world.
As I said, I'll never forget the trauma of 9/11. But, I will also never forget the love and peace of 9/12 and 9/13. For a few days, America and the world were united and supportive in a way that showed what we humans are really like. For that brief time, people stopped caring about money. The system that is destroying our Planet stopped. People's main goal became getting home to family and loved ones, wherever they were. We helped each other overcome obstacles, like the shut down of the airlines. We put strangers up in our houses. Other strangers drove across the country together. People shared whatever they had with whoever needed it. There was an unprecedented outpouring of support for the US from all the other countries and all the other peoples of the world. For a brief moment, the world was united in its condemnation of violence.
I firmly believe that we can have that kind of a world, all the time, without the trigger of a violent attack. If we make the conscious decision that Peace should be our guiding principle, we can create a peaceful world. We can start working together against the problems we need to overcome together, like global warming. That's why I'm a Green, and that's why I hope you'll join me in creating that world.

Joe Goes to Houston!
Helps choose the next President of the United States!
Joe was honored to represent Ohio at the Green Party National Convention in Houston. On August 8, he was one of Ohio's official Delegates to the Convention that chose Jill Stein as the Party's nominee. About 500 Greens attended the high energy conference that saw electrifying speeches from Dr. Stein, Cornel West, YaHe Ndgo and many others. On the way back from the convention, he was bumped off his Delta flight and had to spend the night on the floor at the Atlanta Terminal. At around 2 AM, he was awoken by flashing lights and sirens in the terminal as Delta's main computer system crashed. The official position of the campaign is that Joe had nothing to do with it.

This poll shows them in the low to mid 30's. Click HERE to see the link.Click Here to see the Poll!
Campaigning With Jill Stein!
Appearences in Cleveland and Columbus
In conjunction with Jill Stein's visit to Ohio, Joe got to speak before packed houses in Cleveland and Cincinnati on July 17th and 18th. In Cleveland, Jill wasn't able to make it to the Green Party event at Cuyahoga Green Party Chair David Ellison's office, so Joe had to take her place. Jill ended up doing a live feed on facebook with Dr. Cornel West that had about a million views.

May Day Message
Dear Union Lovers, My name is Joseph R. DeMare, I am the Green Party Candidate for US Senate in Ohio. I just want to go on the record here as being fully supportive of Union rights.
One of the Green's Ten Key Principles is Grassroots Democracy. Unions fundamentally represent Democracy in the workplace. I support them fully. We Greens watch with dismay as the Democrats again and again betray union interests. Card check, NAFTA, GATT, TTP, TTIP etc, etc, leads those of us on the outside of the two party system to the conclusion that unions are locked in an abusive relationship with the Democrats.
The mainstream press hasn't reported this, but we Greens know that unions are largely responsible for the success that the Bernie Sanders campaign has enjoyed. You are his biggest donors, and provided much of the legwork for his campaign. Now that it appears that, once again, the Democrats are proving themselves to be a primarily corporatist party, I would like to ask you to at least consider supporting some Greens. We support you.
Like most Americans now, most of my jobs have not been union. But the one union job I've held was the best job I've ever had. I believe that unions are what helped make America great and the attacks on unions, such as RIght to Work, are part of what's tearing our country down.
Anyway, Happy May Day! I will be rooting for you and advocating unions regardless of whether or not I receive any union endorsements in this election. I will also stay true to my campaign pledge as Senator never to meet with corporate lobbyists, but advice from unions will be welcome.
Earth Day Message
I'm writing this on the eve of Earth Day. It was one year ago, on Earth Day 2015, that I announced my candidacy for U.S. Senate on the Green Party line. I want to thank you all for the contributions you made to the primary campaign. We could not have come this far without you.
So, now it's time for the full election campaign to begin. We have established our base camp at the foot of Mount Everest. We have everything we need. A year's worth of planning and effort have put is in a position for realizing our goal. Now we have to actually climb the mountain. Now we actually beat Rob Portman and put a Green into the Senate. For the next phase of the campaign, we are going back to face to face contact. One conversation with a voter is more effective than ten TV ads. We are going to establish weekly door to door canvassing in as many communities as possible between now and November. Our goal is 1,000 volunteers knocking on doors all across Ohio.
I would also like to ask you to help us by putting up our campaign posters around your neighborhood. You can see the poster on this webpage. Feel free to share it on social media. Laundromats, community centers, telephone poles, and coffee shops are all effective places to put up some posters. We also need people to pass out flyers at big events like the upcoming Taste of Cincinnati on May 28. We already have canvasses planned for Newark on May 7 and Sylvania on May 14.
There are also still some key positions in my campaign team that need to be filled. We already have a Webmaster and Financial officer, and a Volunteer Coordinator. The remaining positions are; Campaign Manager, Press Secretary, Fundraiser, and Social Media Coordinator. If you are interested in any of these positions, please send me your qualifications, immediately. Also, if there's someone you could recommend, let me know.
We've come a long way since I announced my candidacy. We can see the peak of the mountain from our base camp. Of course, there are many potential dangers and pitfalls between here and our goal. We have to take thousands of steps between here and the peak. That means knocking on thousands of doors, passing out thousands of flyers, and hanging thousands of posters. To do that, we need your help. We need people to train and coordinate canvassers, get posters and flyers printed, and make sure that materials are distributed to volunteers. We also need someone willing to help raise the funds to get the posters printed, and someone to fight to make sure our campaign is covered by the press. If you can't be one of the core staff, please continue on this journey with me as a volunteer. Every door knock, poster hung, and flyer passed out is another step towards a Green future. Let's make that future happen, together. Let's put a Green in the U.S. Senate.

Primary Day Message
Today is primary day in Ohio. There were many reasons I decided to run for U.S. Senate one year ago. First and most importantly, it's time to send a Green to the U.S. Senate. We need to send someone in the Senate who understands what most Ohioans experience every day. Rob Portman is a multi-millionaire, he has no clue what it's like to have to choose between making a big grocery trip or putting off a car repair. We need someone who hasn't been through the process that turns people who care into politicians who don't.
But another reason I chose to run is so that the Green Party could have a state-wide candidate on the ballot in this primary. Everyone knows that it's time to overthrow the two party system. The Republicans and Democrats make a big show at election time about their differences, but most of the time, they act as one party. They cooperate to pass laws that hurt most Americans and benefit the wealthiest like NAFTA, GATT, TPP, bankruptcy reform, Obamacare (instead of universal single payer), and many more. The way to overthrow the "two" party system is to throw in a little chaos. We need a strong Green Party, a Party that doesn't follow the "rules" of politics today; that won't take corporate money; that isn't controlled by a tiny group of billionaires at the top; that has clear Principles and actually sticks by them when in office. Today, thanks to a tremendous effort by my voluteers all over the state, any Ohioan, in any ward or precinct anywhere in the State can ask for a Green Party ballot and cast a vote to actually change things. Please do.
When I started this campaign, I had no idea that, through the Bernie candidacy, the Democrats would target Green voters so aggressively. As of this morning, there are only 3,800 registered Greens in Ohio. That's too small a group to really make a difference in the millions that are part of the huge Democratic Party machine. But, apparently we're dangerous enough to warrant hundreds of emails, phone calls, tweets, facebook posts, and individual recruitment. It has had an effect. We have lost some Greens to the Democrats. But, I've been encouraged talking to rank and file Greens and ordinary voters all over the State. Many of them realize that after the candy and flowers the Democrats offer are gone, we are all still faced with the challenge of trying to survive on a planet we are destroying, and that the Democrats have proven again and again that they are not up to that challenge. It's time to put in a Party that really WILL fight climate change, racism, and the thousand other problems that are threatening to tear our country apart. It's time to vote Green. Thank You.
Joe interviewed by WAKR
Joe was interviewed today on WAKR 1590 AM in Akron. The interview went very well. WAKR deserves praise for including Greens in their primary election coverage. Many news outlets are not mentioning the Green Party at all, despite the fact that anyone in any ward or precinct in any county in Ohio can go to the polls on Tuesday and ask for a Green Party ballot. Many Ohioans aren't even aware that they have a real choice in this primary. They can choose to join a Party which does not take corporate money and which does follow ten Key Principles. Thanks to an open minded newsroom, those who listen to WAKR do know. Give a listen...

WE MADE IT ON THE PRIMARY BALLOT!!
On New Year's Eve we received notification from the Secretary of State's office that my name is on the ballot for the March 15 primary for U.S. Senate! Hundreds of Greens all over Ohio helped us gather almost 900 signatures. Our deep thanks to everyone who put in the time and effort to make this happen. We held Pizza/Petition Parties all over the state. Greens gathered signatures from 20 different counties. It was an amazing effort, but only a small taste of what's to come in 2016.
The next step is to grow the Party by getting at least 15,000 people in Ohio to ask for a Green Party ballot in the March 15 primary. In Ohio, the only way to join a political party is to vote in that Party's primary. A base that size will help us springboard up to the 35% of the vote we will need to win in November.
Thank you to everyone who made this possible. I'd like to ask everyone who's reading this to join our effort to overthrow the broken two party system. Ask for a Green Party ballot in March and vote for Joseph DeMare for U.S. Senate. It's Time.
Our New Meme.
We have set a goal of 15,000 votes in the March primary. From January to March, going door-to-door is extremely challenging. So, we will be relying on media for this portion of the campaign. Our plan is to use this meme on as many social media platforms as possible, facebook, twitter, instagram, etc. Please feel free to download this picture and help us by posting it on your own social media accounts. We also plan on using traditional media, such as small, local newspapers, depending on the success of our fundraising efforts. Click the Donate button to help us spread the word that there is an alternative to the two ordinary parties.
Independence Day Message from Joe
On this fourth of July, I am struck by the similarities between our current political situation and that faced by the founders of our country. Like them, we are faced by seemingly insurmountable odds. The two ordinary political parties, working together with corporations and financial institutions, have burdened us with a combination of regressive taxation, corporate tax breaks, high interest rates, and low wages that have left us economically desperate. About a third of Americans have no savings at all.
In addition, pursuing the fantasy of "profit," they have relentlessly destroyed the only source of true material wealth, the ecological systems that support us all. They have cut down our forests, killed the fish, and are daily poisoning our air and water. They use the force of law to prevent us from switching to cleaner technologies, like wind and solar power, that would allow us to obtain the necessities of life without destroying our precious planet. They have taken our homes, burdened us with unpayable debts, and left over 30 million of us to die with no health care. Even though there is more "money" now than there has ever been in human history, we are all poorer because we are living on a dying planet with dwindling resources.
It's clear that we need to overthrow the two party system. At the top, both of these parties act as one. They take money from the same corrupt billionaires and corporations, and act in their interests, not ours.
Those Greens who have been seduced by Bernie Sanders remind me of the Tories. The Tories wanted reforms to the way the British Monarchy ruled the American Colonies without overthrowing the Monarchy. They didn't understand that monarchy is a fundamentally flawed system that inevitably leads to the abuse of power and the oppression of the People. Similarly, a two party system inevitably leads to collusion, corruption, and a separation of the People from decision making.
It's time for America to have a truly vibrant, multi-Party system where the Parties keep each other in check. A system where all the Parties recognize that the Voters, not the dollars, are the ones we are working for. It's time to elect Greens.
Some of us have already pledged our lives and fortunes to this cause. After decades of effort, we are finally on the brink of making it happen. Please join us so that, in 200 years our descendants can look back at this time and say that THIS is the moment that the preserving Mothers and Fathers moved our government away from a culture of corruption and greed and instead towards one of non-violence, ecological wisdom, grassroots democracy, and love.

Petitions coming in from all over Ohio
Over 100 petition signatures have been collected so far by more than a dozen canvassers in nine counties. The number of canvassers has been steadily increasing with almost 30 people now carrying petitions. The campaign has set a goal of 500 signatures by July 1 and 1,500 by September 1.
Petition Drive to Put Joe on the Ballot Has Begun!
Petitioners all over the State have begun collecting signatures to put Joe on the ballot in 2016. We need at least 500 valid signatures by December 16, 2015. Since the other parties will challenge those signatures to try to keep us off the ballot, we are aiming to turn in the maximum number allowed, 1,500, to the Secretary of State.
Petitions can only be carried by registered Green Party members, but they can be signed by voters who are either Greens or unaffiliated. Unaffiliated means that they have not voted in another party's primary in the past four years.

Joe Announces He is in the Race for Senate in 2016!!
4/22/15 At an Earth Day party in his home, Joe DeMare announced that he will be running for U.S. Senate on the Green Party Line in 2016. The first challenge is to collect enough petition signatures to get on the ballot. This effort is beginning immediately. Please go to the Volunteer page to sign up. Help make history in Ohio!
